mOT
macOS Opinionated Terminal —
natural editing, ⌥ Space anywhere, fast, simple.
mOT is a Quake-style drop-down terminal for macOS. Press ⌥Space anywhere — even over another app's full-screen Space — and the panel slides down. Tap it again, it disappears. The hotkey works everywhere. No Dock dance. No Space switch. The terminal is always running; toggling it is a window operation, not a launch. Always on top.
Natural text editing. ⌘← jumps to the start of the line. ⌘→ jumps to the end. ⌥← walks a word back. ⌥→ walks a word forward. ⌘⌫ kills to start. ⌥⌫ kills the previous word. ⌘C copies, ⌘V pastes, ⌘A selects all — the way every other Mac app behaves. Move with your hands on the keyboard.
Native Cocoa. No Electron, no JavaScript runtime, no Chromium tax. ~200 KB binary. Rendering goes straight to CoreText and CoreGraphics. Opens in under a frame. Closes in under a frame. Stays responsive on a thousand-line ls.
Tabs live in the margin as tiny 8-pixel tags — you can read the active tab without lifting your eyes off the prompt. ⌘T opens a new tab. ⌘W closes it. ⌘1 through ⌘9 jump. Triple-click selects a line. Double-click selects a word. The scrollback survives resize.
Hot-reloaded config. Open ~/.mot.yaml, save, watch the colors change. Fonts, palette, opacity, quake hotkey — all live. The watcher uses FSEvents, so saves fire instantly with no polling. No restart, no reload command. (Pro.)
Free forever for the core terminal. Pro is $5, one-time, every Mac you own — the license is keyed to your email, not the machine. Lifetime updates. 30-day refund, no questions. Apple Pay accepted.
No telemetry. No phone-home. License verification happens entirely on-device with an embedded RSA-2048 public key. Your terminal stays yours. Source-available roadmap. Built by one person on a Mac, for people who type.
Fast. Simple. Opinionated. The terminal you didn't realize you wanted until you started using it. ⌥Space and it's there. ⌥Space and it's gone.
